LO3: Audio editing and dubbing techniques
First of all you need to select the full clip, once you do this a white box will appear around both (this means that the audio and clip you have chosen is linked). If you want to the unlink your audio and chose a different audio then you need to right click onto the clip. This allows the user to then edit that certain piece of footage including the audio and the visuals at the same time unless one is locked. When the video stays the play the blue line follows for where the auto footage is at, this helps during the editing stages because it means that the editor can stop the footage at a more specific time to further edit and make changes for the audio editing to be improved.
After you have right clicked a drop down menu will appear, to unlink the audio you need to scroll down the menu then press onto unlink, I did this because I wanted to get rid of the background audio since there was roadworks happening and people shouting where we were filming. Furthermore, after you have unlinked the audio there shouldn't be a white box around both of the clip and audio and there should just only be box around the clip. This section of the editing gives more options for the user to edit the footage with the variety of options given, the unlink feature means that the audio and visual footage are separated meaning. This means that the two pieces being the audio and visuals are available to be moved and edited separately, this makes them more easier to use and accessible for the users.
Once you have unlinked the audio from the clip you then need to click on the audio you want to delete and then either right click and press cut or press the backspace button on your keyboard. This would then clear the audio from the editing bar which then allows you to add your own audio into the clip. The use of audio in the short film is a mixture of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, for example there is the sound of rain, waterfalls, the cafe background noise and the sound of the streets, these features are the diegetic features in the short film. Throughout the short films final edit there will be different non-diegetic audio added that includes the classic music and the dramatic audios that are included to add more genre and atmosphere to the short film.
After you have cleared the audio from the clip that you didn't need you then can import your own music, this for us is some casual background music, we use this audio because it allowed us get rid of the workers in the background and the noise their drill was making and create a more peaceful atmosphere. Even though the music we used is non-diegetic it still gives a natural feel to the film. This is also music that is used in our selected genre, romance and comedy, because the music is quite funny as in not natural but in most romance short films they use to convey the protagonists normal day.
Once you have selected your chosen music you then need to drop it under your chosen clip and then it will play over the clip. We used the scene of the protagonist walking down the street as the chosen scene for the jolly background music because it allowed us to show how happy the protagonist feels happy that he is seeing the girl of his dreams everywhere but he still doesn't have the courage to talk to her. The music conveys by it fading as the girl leaves the frame.
